ECORBIT, a comprehensive environmental company, announced on the 11th that it has started supplying eco-friendly steam to Kolon Industries.

ECORBIT is Korea's leading comprehensive environmental company that operates incineration, landfill, and water treatment businesses. Through waste incineration, it replaces 94 million liters of bunker C oil and produces a carbon reduction effect of 290,000 tCO2eq (tons of carbon dioxide equivalent) per year.

ECORBIT and Kolon Industries held a signing ceremony at Daegu Inter-Burgo Exco Hotel on the 8th to commemorate the start of eco-friendly steam supply.

At the event, ECORBIT's CFO (Chief Financial Officer) Chang-Guk Jeong, Energy Business Unit Head Hong-Jae Shin, ECORBIT Energy Gyeongsan CEO Kim Hak-Cheol and Kolon Industries Gyeongsan Plant Manager Woo Dong-Pyo were present at the event.

Lee Hwi-suck, head of the facility support team, and Ahn Young-Jin, head of the management support team, attended.

Kolon Industries has been using its own city gas boiler to provide steam for the manufacturing process.

Through this contract, more than 70,000 tons of waste heat steam will be supplied annually from ECORBIT.

Waste heat steam (waste energy) is one of the new and renewable energies designated by law, and companies that use ECORBIT's waste heat steam have the effect of contributing to carbon neutrality.

Starting with Korea's first nylon production, Kolon Industries is now a leading global comprehensive materials company that operates in four sectors: industrial materials, chemicals, film and electronic materials, and fashion.

The Gyeongsan factory, which receives ECORBIT steam, is producing ▲membranes for fuel cells, ▲airbag fabric, and ▲artificial leather.

Dong-pyo Woo, head of Kolon Industries’ Gyeongsan factory, said, “Compared to self-produced steam, we are able to use ECORBIT’s eco-friendly steam.

“We are seeing the benefits of killing three birds with one stone, including reducing fuel costs, reducing facility maintenance costs, and reducing carbon emissions.”

“Going forward, we will continue to internalize ESG management by building eco-friendly workplaces and achieving energy savings in various ways,” he said.

An ECORBIT official said, “ECORBIT has contributed to the environment by safely and cleanly processing medical waste and industrial waste while producing renewable energy using waste heat.” as “ECORBIT operates incineration sites across the country, including in the Gyeongsang, Jeolla, and Chungcheong regions, and we ask for the interest of nearby companies interested in ESG management,” he said.
